How to Activate Microsoft Office by Telephone (Free GetCID & ospp.vbs Guide)

1. Check Your Office Product Key Type First (Retail vs. MAK vs. Redeem)

Microsoft distributes Office licenses in three main formats, and knowing which type you have saves time before starting activation:

• Office Professional Plus Retail (`Office21ProPlus2021R_Retail`, `Office24ProPlus2024R_Retail`): Activates directly inside Word/Excel. When internet activation returns 0xC004C008 ("telephone activation required"), it activates via GetCID.
• Office LTSC / Volume MAK (`ProPlus2021VL_MAK_AE`, `ProPlus2024VL_MAK_AE`): Activates directly or by telephone depending on its remaining MAK activation count. Check your key's live Remaining count in our Free PIDKey Check tool.
• Office Home & Business / Home & Student Redeem Keys: Bound once at setup.office.com. Verify these tokens first in our Office Redeem Check tool.

2. Method 1: Activate Microsoft Office Using the Telephone Activation Wizard

If you have Microsoft Office 2024, 2021, 2019, or 2016 installed and entered your product key under File → Account → Change Product Key, follow these steps when the Microsoft Office Activation Wizard appears:

Step 1: Choose Telephone Activation

1. Open Microsoft Word or Excel.
2. In the Activation Wizard dialog, select the radio button "I want to activate the software by telephone" and click Next.
3. Select your country/region from the dropdown menu in Step 1.

Step 2: Copy Your 54-Digit or 63-Digit Installation ID

Under Step 2 of the wizard, Microsoft Office displays 9 groups of numbers (either 9 groups of 6 digits = 54 digits, or 9 groups of 7 digits = 63 digits). Copy or type those digits into our Free GetCID Generator:

Step 3: Enter Confirmation ID Blocks A through H

Take the 8 generated 6-digit blocks (A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H) from GetCID.cc, type them into the boxes under Step 3 of the Office Activation Wizard, click Next, and restart Word/Excel. Your Office suite is now permanently licensed!

3. Method 2: Activate Office via Command Prompt Using ospp.vbs

System administrators and power users can install an Office key, retrieve the 63-digit Installation ID, and apply the 48-digit Confirmation ID directly from an elevated Command Prompt using Microsoft's official Office Software Protection Platform script (ospp.vbs).

Step 1: Navigate to the Office Installation Folder

Open Command Prompt as Administrator and run the command matching your Office architecture:

REM For 64-bit Office on 64-bit Windows (Most Common):
cd /d "%ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Office\Office16"

REM For 32-bit Office on 64-bit Windows:
cd /d "%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Microsoft Office\Office16"

Note: Office 2016, 2019, 2021, and 2024 all use the Office16 directory name.

Step 2: Install Your 25-Character Office Product Key

cscript //nologo ospp.vbs /inpkey:XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX

Step 3: Display Your 63-Digit Office Installation ID

cscript //nologo ospp.vbs /dinstid

Copy the 63-digit number returned in the console and paste it into GetCID.cc to generate your 48-digit Confirmation ID.

Step 4: Apply the 48-Digit Confirmation ID

cscript //nologo ospp.vbs /actcid:YOUR_48_DIGIT_CONFIRMATION_ID

Step 5: Verify Licensed Status & Remove Old Trial Keys

Check that your Office license status shows ---LICENSED---:

cscript //nologo ospp.vbs /dstatus

If /dstatus shows an old unactivated Grace/Trial key alongside your activated key, note its 5-character Last 5 characters of installed product key and remove the conflicting trial key with:

cscript //nologo ospp.vbs /unpkey:XXXXX
